Ramblin’ For UHC Part 2

By DerrikKyle on April 27, 2010, 4:28 am

With the House health care reform bill seemingly dead in the Senate, I feel comfortable posting this second part of my crazy rant against health reform opposition. I’ll try and find the sources of my graphs and numbers, many of which were taken from oversight group websites and the WHO. A few anecdotes were taken out of context and left anonymous, but… well, deal with it. The opposition doesn’t cite their sources, either. Also, this video apparently features a guest appearance by Ashley, who is entranced by an energy drink can after being so stunned by my message. Or not.

    My favorite response?

    “Socialism is EVIL!”

You do realize that the police, firefighting, department of transportation, and public education are socialist institutions, right?

    “WHAAAT!?!?”

    It’s beautiful to behold.

I’ve somewhat recently heard people whining about communism as well. People make little sense…

The majority of americans don’t even know what “america” is.

The worst part is that the technological revolution that brought information to everyone’s fingertips only seems to have managed to put people further apart and polarize their views and misconceptions even further.

I figured we got rid of communism as a bogeyman years ago, yet just this year we have people screaming about socialism without even understanding what “socialism” is.

Consider how many people in this country are so pro-American that they ignore anything about a product except the “made in” tag. They won’t allow themselves to be convinced that maybe, just maybe, we should try making our own end-products worth buying too! But that’s another topic entirely. =)

I haven’t read enough about… well much of anything related to politics or history really, to give an educated opinion. But yeah, the way I see it, literally everything could work much much better than it currently does, the problem is convincing other people that improvements are actually… well, an improvement.

You are absolutely more than right.

It wasn’t until after I posted this video that I really mused on the concept of the bill that already passed in the House. If it does work, all we get is guaranteed insurance and a major overhaul of what said insurance does and does not allow. It COULD fail miserably, but it could ALSO be a first step in making health care actually work for the country.

The thing is, even if universal health care didn’t currently work, that’s no reason to stop trying to MAKE it work.
