Product Description
Anyplace But Here documents the plight of mental patients fit for discharge, but who find themselves thrust into communities unprepared to treat or accept them. Without jobs or homes to go to, they have little choice but to remain institutionalized, which often makes them sicker. The dilemma of being “as scared of getting well as of remaining ill” is vividly portrayed. The film crew was literally given the keys to a large urban psychiatric hospital, enabling them to closely examine conditions and speak with patients, their relatives, staff and administrators. Three patients are followed as they move into rare transient programs. Reporter Bill Moyers gives sparse narration, allowing the participants to speak their minds without interference.
